Do you have fears in your life that are holding you back? As I gather my thoughts for my coffee & words meeting with a few lovely business women, I can't help but think about the things in our lives that hold us back from being in complete faith and obedience to God. I remember as a kid, I always wanted to do things right, whether it be in sports or making an A on a test. The thought of being good at whatever I was doing meant more then anything, I just wanted to do my best at it. I had a fear of not doing well and failing. That same fear of failure has followed me today, the fear of not being a good mom to my boys and letting them down, the fear of losing someone I love dearly.
Fear comes in so many different forms, for different people and it holds many people back from walking in complete faith. Fear is defined as an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. One of my favorite scriptures, out of 1 Timothy 1:7 reads, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. I have to be reminded of this verse often, especially when I know a level of fear is setting in and trying to take over.
For most of us fear comes when we find ourselves moving out of our comfort zone or when we are pushed in to a new season in our life. We have to learn to overcome fears, by speaking the positive and allowing ourselves to be in peace as we approach the unknown.
